About Aja

Welcome!

My name is Aja Ngo which actually comes from two different cultures: Czech and Vietnamese. In the Czech language, my first name is pronounced like (EYE-a). I was born and raised in the Czech Republic and married Thang Ngo, whom I met at an opera house in Prague.

I graduated in 2001 from Tai-Sophia Institute for the Healing Arts with a masters degree in acupuncture. Tai-Sophia Institute is one of the oldest accredited acupuncture schools in the U.S. In addition, I received training in Chinese Medical Massage at the Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Beijing, China, in 1997. I also had the privilege of studying electrical acupuncture (The practice of hooking the acupuncture needles to an electric probe, often used to treat paralysis) in a Catholic monastery in Bien-hoa, Vietnam, in 1998, 2000, and 2003.

My earliest influence was my father, who was one of the first practitioners of acupuncture in the Czech Republic. Prior to coming to the U.S. I worked as a teacher and translator. I have two master's degrees, one in Russian Language and Literature and a second in history from Palacky University in the Czech Republic. Before becoming an acupuncturist, I practiced and taught Shiatsu, the art of Japanese massage.

Currently I am in private practice as an independent practitioner at the Advanced Alternative Healthcare Clinic in southwest Portland, Oregon. When I am not at the clinic, my life is full with being mom to two wonderful sons, wife and volunteer at Outside In.
